Almora

One of the most popular hill station, Almora stands at a height of about 1650 m above sea level. The city find mention in the epic Mahabharata. It was bulilt by a scion of Chand Dynasty, King Kalyanchand, in mid-16th century; it sits on horse-saddle shaped ridge-the eastern part is know as Talifat which faces the rising sun; the western part is selifat which faces the setting sun. The fort, monuments and royal courts are still present here. Kaushik (kosi) and Shalmali (Suyal) are the two rivers flowing nearby. See snow-capped peaks from here.
